Back to School Bash, SOS (Supply Our Students)

A good education is the start for a good quality of life and a driver of success later in life. When parents are struggling to make ends meet, pencils, markers and calculators for school become an impossible luxury. And when children don’t have the school supplies they need to start the school year, it’s difficult to learn.

Our involvement in Graduation Matters Missoula has taught us that equipping at-risk children with the school supplies they need helps them start the school year on the right track. Filling the average school-supply list, and buying a backpack, costs about $100, which is unaffordable for many Missoula families struggling to provide for their children.

That's why we partner with The Salvation Army Missoula, Missoula Interfaith Collaborative, local churches, nonprofits and donors to hold the Back to School Bash.

By helping ensure that Missoula children have the tools they need to start school, we are making sure they can focus on learning. We are asking for monetary donations, so that through discounts and buying in bulk we can make each donation go the furthest.

Thank you for making sure Missoula kids are ready for school this year! You can help by:

1. Becoming a sponsor. Email Erin Steele at erin@missoulaunitedway.org, or call 549-6104 to find out how.

2. Making a donation to help buy a student a backpack and fill it. Make your donation online. Through discounts and bulk and wholesale purchasing, we are able to provide a new backpack filled with the required supplies for about $16 per student ($12 for elementary students, $15 for middle-school students, $20 for high-school students).

3. Volunteering for the week of the event, packing backpacks before or distributing them the day of the bash. To volunteer, please email Erin Steele.

Join us. Change a child’s life today. Give now, or contact Erin Steele at 549-6104 or erin@missoulaunitedway.org to support this important project!

Back to School Bash is a collaboration of United Way of Missoula County, The Salvation Army Missoula, Missoula Interfaith Collaborative, and others.
