University United Food Friday is on Oct. 26!

University United Food Friday is a one-of-a-kind community volunteer event in honor of University of Montana President Seth Bodnar's inauguration and his presidential theme of service. This great team building event is an opportunity to help feed thousands of our hungry neighbors and connect volunteers with the university and our community.

On the UM campus during University United Food Friday, 200 volunteers are needed to package more than 8,000 dried, non-perishable meals - that's 50,000 individual servings - for distribution to hungry children and families in our community. Meals will be distributed to kids through Missoula Food Bank's EmPower Pack weekend nutrition program, providing healthy meals for students who experience chronic hunger while away from school. Each of the meals serves a family of 6, allowing the entire family to enjoy a meal together, or feeding a child for the entirety of an extended school break.

United Way is able to purchase all the supplies needed for the event at a discount, allowing for the maximum community impact. The meals packaged at this event will be distributed throughout the year to local children and families in need.

Other volunteer opportunities: Each summer, we host United Way Day of Action

What is Day of Action?

Day of Action is a community-wide day of hands-on volunteering.  United Way of Missoula County connects volunteers from local businesses with local nonprofit organizations to complete various projects, like painting, clean-up, yard work, etc. 2016 was the 21st consecutive year United Way has held this community service day.

United Way Day of Action demonstrates how volunteerism is vital to our community.  It empowers people to work together to address some of the community’s most urgent needs.  The event provides a firsthand look at the services offered in our community. The hands-on volunteer experiences provide excellent opportunities for employee team-building.  It also spotlights United Way of Missoula County’s role in bringing volunteers together to advance the common good for all.  Volunteer teams from local businesses that wish to participate in the Day of Action will be matched with projects submitted by our nonprofit partners.

Spend the morning, afternoon or all-day working on hands-on projects that will help make a difference in Missoula County...

Near the longest day of the year (June 21); we're asking you to round up a group of friends or co-workers and volunteer a few hours that day to make our community stronger. No special skills are needed--just a desire to work with others to improve education, income, and health in Missoula County!
