In response to request from Missoula County Office of Emergency Management, United Way of Missoula County started the Lolo Peak Fire Fund in 2017. This fund allows you to make a tax-deductible, charitable contribution to help victims of the Lolo Peak Fire. 100% of donations will go to helping families who need it, with United Way donating the administrative costs during this emergency situation.

Those of us involved in fire relief are conferencing daily and coordinating efforts closely. Here's what we want you to know about how you can best help families affected by the fires:

Cash donations are the best and easiest way to help. Missoula County has designated United Way of Missoula County as the repository of funds to aid fire victims, with 100% of all donations going to that purpose. Click here to donate now to the Lolo Peak Fire Fund.  As in the past during similar disasters, United Way and 2-1-1 -- the Human Resource Council's helpline -- will administer the fund, carefully screening all requests so that funds go to those most in need.

Donations of water and NONPERISHABLE food can be delivered to the Montana Food Bank Network, 406.721.3825; 5625 Expressway in Missoula, Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sorry, no perishables and no homemade products.

For pets: Missoula Animal Control is accepting donations of pet food, and has identified locations to shelter pets. 406.541.7387, 6700 Butler Creek Road. Information about wildfire resources for pets is also available through the Humane Society of Western Montana:

***Please hold off on donating other items until further information is available about needs. Sorting and warehousing these items during a disaster is a big challenge, so please wait until further notice before donating items other than food, water or pet food.***
